Prime Minister to inaugurate 98th Indian Science Congress in SRM University – Chennai

The 98th edition of Indian Science Congress (ISC) will be held by the Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA) at the SRM University in Kattankulathur near Chennai on Jan 3-7, 2011. The science congress will deliberate on the focal theme ‘Quality Education and Excellence in Scientific Research in Indian Universities’.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will inaugurate the Indian Science Congress to be held. Union Science and Technology Minister Kapil Sibal will be addressing the inaugural session of the Congress. The Congress would be attended by over 7,000 delegates from India and abroad, including six Nobel Laureates and several eminent scientists from across the world, Indian Science Congress Association President K C Pandey reported.

“Besides the theme session, there will be 14 sessions, including on science and challenges in new power and renewable energy, climate change and food security,”

SRM University Vice Chancellor P Sathyanarayanan said there would a series of programmes including a Space Summit would be held alongside the ISC, in which space agencies from NASA Japan Space Exploration Agency apart from ISRO will participate.

An expo, featuring the various aspects of science would be held alongside the ISC. In all there would be 200 stalls, both from public and private undertakings in a sprawling 6,000 sq m area.It would be an educative expo for the students.
