While nothing beats winning a world cup, India probably accomplished all that it wanted to in this particular edition.

First, it beat all its cricketing neighbours with whom it shares a love-hate relationship: Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Bangladesh. More satisfying was the fact that Pakistan was beaten in front of its Prime Minister Yousaf Gillani. That’s one Indian attack the Pak PM had to applaud!

Immediately after that, Sri Lanka was beaten in front of their president Mahinda Rajapaksa. The Indian Tigers roared and Rajapaksa could do nothing but admire their fighting spirit.

Second, all the former world champions were beaten in four consecutive matches in a space of two weeks: West Indies, Australia, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Strangely that’s the exact order that the above countries first became champions in the first place! (1975, 1987, 1992 and 1996)

If that wasn’t a divine script then there was Sachin’s world cup win in his hometown in his very last tournament.

Even the last ball ended up being a winning six!
Many congratulations, Team India !!!

Light Combat Aircraft Tejas gets to join Indian Air Force http://www.facemaza.com/blog/2011/01/10/light-combat-aircraft-tejas-gets-to-join-indian-air-force/ Mon, 10 Jan 2011 19:01:32 +0000 http://www.facemaza.com/blog/?p=3944 Tejas

Tejas, the smallest lightweight, multirole, single-engined tactical fighter aircraft in the world, is being developed as a single seat fighter aircraft for the Indian Air Force and also as a two-seat training aircraft

It’s a big  step forward for India’s defence aviation technology. Over three decades in the making – finally the Indian Air force (IAF) has got the operational clearance for Tejas. India’s first indigenously built light combat aircraft will now be inducted into the air force this year.  IAF have ordered 40 machines that will be delivered in the next two years and will replace the ageing MiGs.The lightweight Tejas, presently powered by American General Electric Engine has been developed from scratch. The 4th generation aircraft is capable of carrying assorted weapon load and can drop tanks up to four tons.

The LCA though many say is still not 100 per cent ready and the IAF which has long waited for this believes many more tests need to be done before it can be a truly cutting edge machine.

The project, which has taken 27 long years to reach this stage, has been bogged down by technology denials, leading to financial constraints and cost escalations. But with this operational clearance there are now plans to start the Medium Combat Aircraft.

Sachin Tendulkar’s son Arjun at nets practice along with Indian cricket team http://www.facemaza.com/blog/2011/01/04/sachin-tendulkars-son-arjun-at-nets-practice-along-with-indian-cricket-team/ Tue, 04 Jan 2011 17:51:04 +0000 http://www.facemaza.com/blog/?p=3836

Indian cricket team practised at the Newlands stadium in Cape Town on Janurary 1, 2011 on the eve of the third test between South Africa and India, Sachin Tendulkar’s son Arjun a budding cricketer had some time at the nets. Unlike his father, Arjun is left hander.

Arjun, with his left-arm Chinaman, had a good bowl at Sreesanth who relished hitting the rubber ball into the stands for the guards to bring it back. After a while, Sachin himself took the ball to give his son some batting practice.

Arjun had a good time batting, bowling and running around the beautiful ground. A few other Indian players joined and took turns to play with Arjun, such as Virender Sehwag.
